Althorp Living History
|
Theodore Alexander introduced this collection at the April 2010 High Point Market based on Althorp’s position as one of England’s most celebrated country houses. The new line, named “The Falconry” consists of 45 items, is made from English oak, is available in two finishes—Hedgerow and Cottage—and brings a new dimension to the success of the Althorp Living History brand.
The collection takes its name from the 17th century building on the estate known as the Falconry, originally built by Robert, first Lord Spencer in 1611, and at the time known as the Hawking Tower.
The use of oak in the collection was inspired by the outstanding number of Veteran Oaks that have flourished for centuries on the Althorp Estate; however, the oak used in the collection was not harvested from the Estate. The collection’s finishes and aged look are reminiscent of the many generations of loving wear that this furniture would have had in the farmhouses and village homes that make up the Althorp Estate. It appeals to today’s more casual lifestyle with its rustic and casual “country” look.
